I installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Linaro, but mp4 files do not work fine.
I tried with the software pre-installed, and then with mplayer.
What software do you recommend to take advantage of the GPU, as omxplayer in raspberry?
    Thanks

Same thing. I tried VLC but it does not work because there are no xvideo devices. I even tried to use mplayer, that works fine with no hw acceleration (-vo sdl), but the window size must be kept small otherwise the video performance is really poor. I tried mplayer with -vo gl but there is an issue with Open GL beacuse it cannot find GL_ARB_fragment_program. I verified with glxinfo that GL_ARB_fragment_program is not there.
In the end I am unable to play a video file in full screen, any suggestions?

The only way I found so far (and which works really well) is to install the xbmc image and use that for all multimedia related purposes.
