We need a thinner/flatter version of the very bulky cable that comes (from shop.udoo.org) with the 7" LCD screen with touch panel (to fit a casing we're working on for that screen).

Part 1: We figured out the current connectors (from this thread: http://www.udoo.org/forum/threads/connector-types.123/) but were wondering if we can redo the cable with a flexible flat ribbon (with 24 wires). Are there min reqs or restrictions (e.g. AWG, carrying power or digital signals only)?

Minimally, we'd like to redo the connectors into a 90-degree connector. Is there any recommended parts? (e.g. from digikey)
[we know current part is http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/PHDR-24VS/455-1177-ND/608618)

Part 2: If we can't change the cable, can we simply redo the wires (shorter)? And is it correct to state that the wires are matched 1-to-1 to the connector (no wire switched)? What's the gauge of the wires used for the one from shop.udoo.org?

    Any help is much appreciated.

    Thanks.
