It has been announce in the latest kickstarter update (May 31) but it's still not released.

We are actively working on the firmware, and have increased the size of the development team working on this.

    The firmware includes the following:
    • Fixes Arduino power management issues
    • Adds fan speed options (as a result of community feedback here!)
    • Adds a factory board reset procedure
    • HDMI-CEC and Infrared (in addition to firmware support, the drivers are also being written for this)

for the fan speed, I would make it a variable instead of a fix value.

It's already variable, but the UEFI was designed by a complete idiot and possible MINIMUM values goes from 55C to 115C.

EDIT: Other temperature settings don't go anywhere near MINIMUM 115C, not even Critical, which why it's clear that designer must be complete idiot.

Strong words. As a software developer I know that things are often way more complex than you'd think.

Also, I think what @x1800MODMY360x was saying is the fan speed should be varied based on the temperature, rather than a fixed speed triggered at the temperature limits.

Variable fan speed is not the same as variable temperature limits. Easiest implementation would be a fan speed linearly proportional to temperature, with min fan speed at a low temp trigger and max fan speed at a high temp trigger.

I don't mean to prod, but also anticipating the firmware update. I've got some big plans for automation in the future, I was going to deal within the limitations of a pi w zero but I'm really liking the idea of an udoo as the main hub, and maybe use pi's sub networked. I'd love to so start tinkering with arduino running the pc

We are testing the release candidate next week, and hope to release it the week after :)

Given the fact that they should have tested the RC by now (according to their timeline) and given their proven history of acknowledging any hiccup weeks later, I think it's only fair to ask if there has been any progress, don't you think? ;)

Sorry to say, UDOO is NOT strong in software.

Thank God were talking firmware, instead of software... A bunch less lines of code. They are cautious to not brick a couple thousand machines. I work for a big manufacturer, and Udoo is doing great for their size.

I think it's a very fair question to ask. We all have a right to ask that very question... We are all very anxious for the next release. Laura's last message said that last week was testing and this week was the hopeful date for release. Crud, she even gave us a list of updates being targeted. Vendors are resistant to give weekly updates, because this will be the new norm, and the push will turn to daily updates. Large manufactures like Asus, Gigabyte, Netgear, Linksys, etc, will give you no updated on future releases, let alone timelines.

I don't think Udoo is a 50-100 person company. I would probably put the number around 4-8 full time employees, and a mix of consultants and part time workers. I don't think they have the sales volume to have a bunch of experts banging out a lot of work on this over and over again. I've personally set my expectations for updates coming from a small and neat boutique computer manufacturer.
