Today I have successfully activated a 3 monitors FullHD installation with the following cables:
1) HDMI to HDMI
2) DP to HDMI Udoo cable
3) DP to HDMI Udoo cable
connected to 3 Samsung monitor HDMI FullHD 1920x1080 60Hz
and using Slackware 64 14.2 configured with arandr

Indeed I have 1 monitor active during the boot but after the boot 3 black screen with either Ubuntu 17.04, Debian Stretch 9.1 and FreeBSD 12.00.

Today I have booted with Debian 9.1 xfce4 and only 1 monitor connected. After the boot I have connected the monitor 2 and 3 and UdooX86 Ultra recognize it giving video signal. The problem is that arandr configure correctly only the monitor 1 and 2 and not the third giving the error "configure crtc2 failed".

Yesterday I have successfully installed X and xfce4 desktop in the 12.0 (version 14th August 2017) FreeBSD according to the precious instruction by Benjamin here illustrated [SOLVED] Slackware64-14.2 installed and FreeBSD installed with GRUB partition identifier in progress
Then I can adfirm that this installation of FreeBSD allow two monitor: the first on HDMI port and the second on DP port. When I connect the third video port (second DP) I have an error but FreeBSD don't crash and report an Xserver error. Then perhaps it's possible to resolve it also because Slackware 14.2 don't have this problem.

UPDATE 20th August 2017
Today I have "hot" successfully connected the third monitor on DP port of UdooX86 Ultra with FreeBSD 12.00 rebuilded with drm-next and I have seen 3 FullHD 60Hz video signals on 3 Different Samsung monitors.
I have again a problem: I have configured the sections Displays in Setting Manager and also the installed arandr either recognize the monitor but allow only 2 monitor "work space". If I put the third monitor outside the allowed 2 monitor "work space" I obtain an error and X server stop with a black signal to all 3 monitors. But the Udoox86 don't have and hardware freeze so I can go to a free terminal and make a software reboot. I think that it'is confirmed that this is a software and not an hardware problem.

ANOTHER UPDATE 20th August 2017
I add the screenshot of error by arandr

ANOTHER UPDATE 21th August 2017
I have tested Fedora 26 and it support 3 monitors with 3 different workspace in EMMC32GB of UdooX86 Ultra

ANOTHER UPDATE 22th August 2017
Added photo of 3 monitors FullHD with 3 different workspace on my UdooX86 Ultra and Fedora Workstation 26

I have successfully installed in my UdooX86 Ultra in the MicroSD 64GB OpenSUSE 42.3 and Mint 18.2:

OpenSUSE support only 2 monitors
Mint support 3 monitors FullHD with 3 different workspace

Then actually I have successfully tested
3 OS GNU/Linux that support 3 monitors FullHD with 3 different workspace:

Slackware 14.2
Fedora 26
Mint 18.2

Hi!! glad you make it work!! i'm trying to make same setup as yours work, for the moment i have 2 monitor working under debian 9.1 and i also get error when trying to setup the 3º monitor as extended desktop. (mirror mode works, but not extended desktop). Could you please post the kernel version and intel graphics driver in any of your working distros? i would like to use debian, even if i have to recompile a newer kernel and graphics driver (perhaps Xorg version also?) , and if that does not work i perhaps will swich to one of your working distros.

Thank you very much
Ion
PD "modinfo i915" would be great too!

Dear ibiltari

I think that it's a good idea to work to understand why Debian and Ubuntu don't allow third monitor and Mint that is a derivate allow it

In my Debian 9.1 installation I have

root@amatronico:/home/stecolumna# uname -r
4.9.0-3-amd64
root@amatronico:/home/stecolumna# uname -a
Linux amatronico 4.9.0-3-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.9.30-2+deb9u3 (2017-08-06) x86_64 GNU/Linux

and

pd "modinfo i915" can't open

Best regards

Thank you very much!! the important info would be from the working distro (mint for example) i have checked that fedora runs kernel 4.12, and installed in debian a same version kernel and it gives me the same error
de modinfo command must be rund as root. i made a typo, exact command is "modinfo i915".

i think im going to try linux mint to find differences.

hope this helps others too thank to you :)

Thank you very much!! at first glance, looks like debian is missing some firmware files for the intel graphics card.. i have to look at it deeper

Dear waltervl

I have used the latest version (2.06) of Intel® Graphics update tool for Linux for Ubuntu 17.04 but the hot connection of the third monitor failed with black screen on all three monitors. But the difference is that now the OS don't freeze at all and I have rebooted from tty1 after the hardware disconnection of the HDMI of the third monitor.

I'm having same problem on new Ubuntu 18.04, 18.10, also with Mint 19. When I start with 3 monitors, only black screen, with two it is ok. When I connect third monitor, I get blank screen and in Xorg.log:

[ 3887.924] (II) modeset(0): Allocate new frame buffer 5760x1080 stride
[ 3887.948] failed to add fb -22
[ 3887.962] failed to add fb -22
[ 3888.013] failed to add fb -22

here is full log https://pastebin.com/JMjKhQmZ

Could anybody recommend contemporary distro with triple video output working?

Thanks for this post! Indeed Mint 18.2 cinamon also works for me on three monitors! I do have another question maybe you could help me with... I have to create one big workspace over the three monitors, in order to run programs (like chrome fullscreen) over the three monitors at once. I got this working with ubuntu 18 LTS by installing compiz config manager and setting my workspace to 3840x1080+0+0 (for two monitors), however, I cant get this to work in the mint edition....

Dear michal

I apologize for the long silence but I had some personal problems to solve.

I have done further tests and I have concluded that the problem is probably also in the disk drive. In fact now I can correctly use 3 monitors with separate workspaces with Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia Mate installed on 128GB MicroSD in a Udoo X86 Ultra.

I hope this can help you

dear Michal,

You are right because I tried the DVD Live of Linux Mint Tessa 19.1 and does not actually work with 3 monitors.
But I remember you that Linux Mint Sylvia 18 is a contemporary distro because is a Long term support release (LTS), supported until April 2021.
Anyway I have installed in Transcend M2 SSD 512GB disk of UdooX86 Ultra also Fedora 29 and updated with
yum update
so it's a completely contemporary distro that works perfectly with 3 monitors with 3 different workspace.

Best regards,
Stecolumna

Dear Michal,

also GNU/Linux Manjaro 18.0 Illyria xfce 4 kernel Linux 4.19.16-1 support 3 monitors in UdooX86 Ultra Transcend 512GB SSD. You have to install and configure LXrandr to obtain 3 different workspaces

Best regards,
Stecolumna
