I have an UDOO-dual board without official power supply (12V 2A)
but elinux.org/UDOO says it could work with 6V-15V range.
Also one guy said that he tried 5V and it works just well.

The question is - could I try to run UDOO with 5V 1A power supply (from Beaglebone Black) without risk to damage anything?

    Thanks for the help!

    Hi there repu1sion,
that way the board won't get damaged, but it may not work properly due to the low voltage.
    CHeers!

Thanks. It really works until I start to connect lots of usb devices to it... ;)
After that I have unexpected reboots probably because of not enough voltage.
6V would be enough or I need exactly 12V to connect few USB devices to it and have it stable?

    12V to have it stable.
    Cheers!

From my experience: it works fine on 5V 1A with hdmi display connected but until you start to connect USB devices. After that unexpected reboots follow.

The solution is going for a proper PSU (12V 2A).
    Cheers

    Hi there,
could you better specify your question? Are you talking about pins/power up,/what else?

Any current level rating above the minimum is fine. The Udoo I'm routing through right now is connected to 100 amp-hours of batteries, part of a home solar power system :)

It is important to include a fuse in your power lead, though, when connecting to a source capable of high current, to avoid the risk of fire or melted wires in the event of a short circuit caused by incorrect wiring or component failure. I use a 3A automotive fuse (ATC type) but any fuse in the range of 2A to 5A should be fine. Normally an Udoo will be pulling well under 1 amp.

The Udoo does not come with a fuse already on-board because the small AC -> DC power supplies it would normally be used with contain their own overcurrent protection -- shorting out one of those should normally just shut it down without damage. This is not the case when running from a battery, though.
