I'm almost sold on getting the top of the line Bolt as a small emulation machine. However, I'm seriously sensitive about fan noise.

Is there a way to install one of those really quiet Noctua Ryzen coolers instead of the one that ships with the board?

will be difficult, the clearance for the heatsink is around 60-65mm, thus fitting a 60x60mm heatsink (the mounting hole space is 50x50mm), what you can do is get a scythe kodati cpu heatsink, that one has 50x50mm mounting holes on the baseplate, but still needs an offset if you want to use both ram slots. (see my sketchup model thread for an example)

So the mounting holes don't use the standard AM4 measurements?

that is correct: the am4 mounting holes are 90x54mm spaced, where the bolt uses 50x50mm
