I have a Mac Mini server with smb file sharing turned on. However I am unable to get XBMC to see it. I am using the newest release.

I know some have run into issues with the Ubuntu networking manager, have disabled it and sorted out their setup with CLI config tools.

Using Stephan's XBMC release I'm able to see and access SMB shares served up from both a Debian machine and a Windows 8 machine. I had to add them manually via IP.

I'm afraid I can't provide any more help than that, but I can confirm it's working on my end.

    Hi

Have you tried in finder to "Connect to network" and specify "cifs:\\" in front of share name (or its ip address)? ;)
