Hi, anyone experiencing problem with sound over HDMI?

At first I tought that there was a driver issue in windows 10, couln't get any audio out from windows 10 to the TV. The audio control says there is a problem with the driver and the volume and audio icons are grey.
So i switched to linux (ubuntu) to check and there too I couldn't get audio out to the TV. So it appears as if it is hardware realted.
Analog audio works and I could not try the integrate speakers neither the spdif out but they appear in normal color so i assume they work fine.

    Hi Palita,
For Windows, you have to download AMD Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition. The HDMI sound is controlled by the display drivers. It may not be the only way but I not tech savvy enough to go into it.

I have the same problem with Ubuntu MATE 18.04 and 20.04. So far, I have not figured out how to fix this. I just do not get sound through the HDMI port.

I have no issues in getting sound out with HDMI (Ubuntu 20.04 LTS). You have to set the speaker out.
I had 1 issue. I installed VLC and set the volume low (or off, I don't remember). That also set the global volume that could not be restored.
I had to set VLC to normal volume levels again.

I am glad that you have sound. I have tried every solution I have found on the net but I still do not have sound over HDMI. I am running Ubuntu MATE' 18.04 on a UDOO Bolt V8 with 32Gb RAM and 1Tb SSD.

Update: I DO get sound when I play Big Buck Bunny, but I do not get sound when trying to watch YouTube videos. I can not find a setting that will affect this.

I get sound out HDMI when I play local files, but not when streaming something off YouTube or elsewhere.

Audio stream embedded in HDMI signals can be digital stereo (PCM at various bit rate), Dolby Digital, etc.
If your HDMI monitor can decode digital stereo (which is the most basic one) and sound well, but not on other streaming sources,
you'll have to trace the audio stream format (especially advanced Dolby format) and find out where such format is decoded.

Hint: a plain, inexpensive computer monitor cannot decode Dolby Digital oe even Digital PCM steoreo a 192 kbps, while a higher end monitor or HDTV (broadcast ATSC's audio signal is Dolby AC-3) can.

Also, try play audio on local 3.5mm headphone port. This validate if audio stream can be decoded with proper audio plug-ins.

My "monitor" is a 43" Toshiba HDTV, so it should be able to decode everything.

    Try few possible scenarios
    - play file locally thru 3.5mm headphone jack, not thru HDMI audio stream
    - play file which only in embeds Dolby Digital audio format, not Digital Stereo format
(or stream from Internet such as YT, but select specific audio format)
    - try several types of HDMI display devices (HDTV, computer monitor, etc.)
    - try a different HDMI cable (1.4 or 2.0)

Use these to deduce the missing element...

I will try getting audio from the 3.5mm headphone jack if it does not need a special connector
How do I select specific audio formats with YouTube?
I only have one HDMI display device - my Toshiba 43" HDTV
All my HDMI cables are the same - I got them in a bundle.

I tried the analog audio out today but did not get any sound at all.
Neither Chrome nor Firefox yield any sound.

Ubuntu MATE and Linux Mint MATE do not get sound through HDMI.

On my UDOO Bolt V8 with 32Gb RAM and 1Tb SSD:
    1) I have tried two different Linux distributions, Ubuntu MATE and Linux Mint MATE, and do not get sound through HDMI.
    2) Neither Chrome nor Firefox will produce sound.
    3) I do not get sound through the headphone jack.
