So this problem just appeared. After a while the webcam just stops and just disappears from the computer. You don't even see it with lsusb. It's just gone.

A delayed restart will turn it back on again but a regular restart might not.

I'm scratching my brain trying to understand what it could be. My current ideas are:
    • Temp power loss on usb port
    • Wrong power line frequency on webcam
    • Camera overheats?
Is there anything else I could check for? Are any of the above issues with the Udoo.

Oh and the forth idea. We're powering the UDOO, two lamps and a fan from the same power source. Should we separate it so that the Udoo has its own?

    Perhaps USB sleep mode?
What is your OS (linux, windows)?

    Max,

Providing make/model number of the USB Webcam is essential for us to help you.
Is that webcam always USB port-powered (i.e., not having a separate power supply)?
Does the problem only happen to that webcam but not other brand of webcams?
Did you extend the USB cable thru some means?
If the webcam USB cable is user swappable, have you tried other USB cable?
