I've been running archlinux on the UDOO for about 3 days. Can someone tell me why I am not seeing any boot up messages, the screen stays dark until I see the login prompt? I like knowing what is going on "under the hood" so to speak. I also prefer to boot up to the command prompt and not into a desktop environment.

I am not running Archlinux myself. Does this link help: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Disable_Clearing_of_Boot_Messages
You may be able to switch TTY1 by pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1 to see your boot messages if they haven't been cleared.
Then press Ctrl+Alt+F7 to return to your Desktop.

I have not tested this, just offer it up as a community suggestion, trial & error.
    Regards,
    Carlos
