I noticed that the heatsink fan spins as soon as you power up the board. However, it stops once Ubuntu boots up and it never turns on again. Not even when the heatsink reaches 90C degrees. However, if I enter into the BIOS, the fan runs all the time. It only stops once Ubuntu has booted up. Why is that and can it be changed?

Are you on the latest uefi firmware (1.0.3) ? Then you can control the fan with settings. But it will always run during boot or uefi/bios edit. (Do not ask me why :) )
