Are you considering steam to play [1] with the udoo or for streaming [2] from another computer ?(https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3629-RIAV-1617) ?

[1] I don't think Steam works on ARM but I could be wrong and SteamOS only works on x86 arch (http://www.wikiwand.com/en/SteamOS)
    [2] Check http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTM1MTU - https://github.com/limelight-stream/limelight-pc

For XBMC (Kodi !), the currently viable solution is the OpenElec port made by vpeter : http://www.udoo.org/forum/new-openelec-t2025.html
I didn't tried yet the new android image with the kodi app, maybe it works better now...

it's for steamplay (streaming), not for actual install/processing of games. It's not built for arm, I was hoping someone had found a way.

As for XBMC, the openelec and the other XBMC 'official' releases are built with yocto, and are not debian, etc, so even if the steam deb package were arm compatible, it wouldn't be able to install here. The problem with Yocto is it pretty much makes that image THE image. I like being able to take the OS a bit further.
